Guangfa Securities Headquarters is a super highrise located in Zhujiang New Town district of Guangzhou. A holistic principle guides its development from urban planning to a detailed architecture, landscape and interior concepts articulated into an expressive design through sophisticated facade system.
The site anchors the eastern edge of the urban green axis formed by Zhujiang Park and lies perpendicularly to the north-south urban axis from Canton Tower. This 308-meter tall tower will become the eastern terminus and serve as a new landmark for Guangzhou in general and Zhujiang New Town in particular.
The tower's elegant and slender proportion is achieved by tilting its principal facades and chamfering corners to generate a facetted form that tapers as it rises towards the crown. The rotation of its footprint in relation to the dominant urban grid, creates strong vertical perceptions of the tower and maximizes views of the park from inside. The slender volume allows more daylight into office floors. A small core, achieved by the introduction of a sky lobby that allows intelligent transfer of the vertical circulation and stacking of elevator shafts, and maximizes floor plate efficiency.
The tower is comprised of rental office floors below the sky lobby and meeting rooms, informal lounges and Guangfa Securities headquarters starting from the sky lobby. The external form of tower is articulated by three key zones – the entrance lobby, the sky lobby and the crown – the interior of each generated by the transformation of the tower facade elements. Single unit of mullion profile is used as a generative component that articulates external skin of the tower with its interiors, thus creating a holistic architectural experience. The outward projection of the entrance canopy, formed by the modulation of the facade mullions, is balanced by a similar inward transformation that shapes the ceiling and generates the core cladding. At the sky lobby, the glazing panels are moved outward from typical glass surface, while the mullion profiles are transformed inward to generate the soaring atrium of the sky lobby. The facade mullions culminate in spires that crown the tower as well as shelter the top floor VIP club. The curved spandrel panels draw and filter air through under-floor ventilators that maximize the comfort of internal work environment while integrated photovoltaic modules behind spandrel glazing increase the tower’s energy self-sufficiency.
Supported by a signature annex podium on the west for VIP lounge, with reflective water bodies and an impressive landscape, Guangfa Securities Tower integrates into the larger urban fabric and provides interactive social space to the city. The design surpasses dualities and combines form and function in a holistic approach. Guangfa Securities Tower re-affirms our process of evolving concept from its rooted urban origins and integrating architectural detailing, facade systems and interiors into a holistic and memorable design.
